The distance between Tallinn, Estonia\u2019s capital, and Tartu is 186km, or about 2 hours by train and 2.5 hours by express bus or car.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block mb-3\">\n\t\t<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion-accordion-69dafd9bc4202\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item accordion-item--white\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-69dafd9bc4202-heading-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#accordion-69dafd9bc4202-collapse-1\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-69dafd9bc4202-collapse-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFlying to Tartu\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-69dafd9bc4202-collapse-1\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-69dafd9bc4202-heading-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Starting on 31 March 2024, <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/flights\/city-to-city\/hel\/tay\/flights-from-Helsinki-to-Tartu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/flights\/city-to-city\/hel\/tay\/flights-from-Helsinki-to-Tartu\">Finnair<\/a> is providing a direct flight from Helsinki Airport to Tartu. Currently, this is the only international plane route to Tartu. The price for a Helsinki-Tartu round-trip flight starts from \u20ac165.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/timetables?dest=TAY&amp;origin=HEL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/timetables?dest=TAY&amp;origin=HEL\">Flights depart\u00a0<\/a>from Helsinki Vantaa Airport at 13:30 and arrive at Tartu Airport at <span class=\"block\"><span class=\"bold-type itinerary-endpoint-time\">14:20 <\/span><\/span>every day of the week except Saturdays (Sun-Fri). Additional flights departing from Helsinki at 23:55 and arriving in Tartu at 00:40 are also available.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/timetables?dest=HEL&amp;origin=TAY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.finnair.com\/en\/timetables?dest=HEL&amp;origin=TAY\">Return flights\u00a0<\/a>to Helsinki depart from Tartu Airport at 14:45 and arrive at Helsinki Vantaa at 15:35.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you have arrived at Tartu Airport, you can reach the city center using the E1 bus that operates between the airport and city center in accordance with the flight schedule. Tickets cost 5\u20ac and can be purchased from the bus driver using a contactless bank card. The schedule and list of stops can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tartu.ee\/en\/airport-shuttle?fbclid=IwAR2Rn25A5zS8t8QS-S4eRTsiMFQAhO4deCDjURu5-G6q_XVBaDYnoGfI6Xk_aem_AWrTohqrRhgfdtcZju0NfywJ73uZQzGRtgSVQMJ1Lu9rjPFsPnFQjI1M05QZkXXcxTi4dyYSzNpgCTcNCdIHdEY-\">here<\/a>. Departure times from the airport are approximate, as the bus waits for all the passengers to disembark from the plane before leaving. Low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air also fly to Tallinn.<\/p>\n<p>To travel from Tallinn to Tartu you have a choice between a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\">bus<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/elron.ee\/en\/\">train<\/a>. You can board the Tallinn-Tartu bus either from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bussijaam.ee\/en\">Tallinn bus station<\/a>\u00a0or the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\/timetable\/search?departureStop=lennujaam&amp;destinationStop=tartu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\/timetable\/search?departureStop=lennujaam&amp;destinationStop=tartu\">Tallinn airport<\/a>. Tickets can be bought online and downloaded to a smartphone. Tickets are available from the driver, too, but please note that buses tend to be full and you would be much better off purchasing your ticket before the bus arrives.<\/p>\n<p>If you arrive in Tallinn by ferry or travel to Tartu from the city center, express train might be the best option. The main train station (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltijaam.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Balti jaam<\/a>) is located just outside the Old Town, the station closest to the airport is \u00dclemiste. Trains run about 10 times per day. Note that the ticket can be purchased 14 days in advance only,\u00a0the schedule is unlikely to change from week to week.<\/p>\n<p>Buses are rather frequent: on average, they depart every 30 minutes, however, there are no late-night buses. The easiest way to get to the bus station from the city center or the ferry terminal is to take a taxi. Tram number 2 (in the direction of \u00dclemiste) or bus number 2 will also take you there (the Autobussijaam bus stop). You can buy a ticket for \u20ac2 from the bus or tram driver, or at the ticket validator using a contactless banking card. Bus connections are provided by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luxexpress.eu\/en\">LuxExpress<\/a>. Buses depart from Riga airport three times a day and from Riga central bus station four times a day. For return flights, coach operator\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luxexpress.eu\/en\">LuxExpress<\/a>\u00a0also provides a night bus service between Tartu and Riga. Buses depart every evening from Tartu at 23:55, bringing passengers to the center of Riga in the early hours of the following morning, arriving at Riga Airport at 4:20.<\/p>\n<p>From Stockholm and Helsinki, there are also\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ts.ee\/en\/arrivals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.ts.ee\/en\/arrivals\/\">ferry connections to Tallinn<\/a>. From Helsinki there are multiple departures with different companies. The ferry line to Stockholm is overnight.<\/p>\n<p>For heartier travelers, Estonia can also be\u00a0reached by bus (<a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.luxexpress.eu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.luxexpress.eu\/en\">LuxExpress<\/a>;\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/global.flixbus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/global.flixbus.com\/\">Flixbus<\/a>)\u00a0from major cities in Poland, Baltic countries, Germany, and other\u00a0countries.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block mb-3\">\n\t\t<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion-accordion-69dafd9bc5dac\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item accordion-item--white\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"accordion-69dafd9bc5dac-heading-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#accordion-69dafd9bc5dac-collapse-1\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-69dafd9bc5dac-collapse-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCalling a taxi\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"accordion-69dafd9bc5dac-collapse-1\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-69dafd9bc5dac-heading-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Estonia, most people use smartphone apps like Uber and Bolt for taxi services.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding\u00a0<strong>Tallinn<\/strong>, the most common (but not necessarily the cheapest) taxi companies include\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/forustakso.ee\/en\/taxis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/forustakso.ee\/en\/taxis\/\">Forus Takso<\/a>\u00a0(1200, +372 6 120 000),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tallinktakso.ee\/front-page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tallink Takso<\/a>\u00a0(1921, +372 640 \u00a08921), and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elektritakso.ee\/hinnad.html#three\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elektritakso\u00a0<\/a>(1918, +372 588 588 00).<\/p>\n<p>Regarding\u00a0<strong>Tartu<\/strong>, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tartu.ee\/en\/taxis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0taxi companies are listed here<\/a>. The buses to Tartu tend to be full, so it is advisable to buy the ticket in advance.<\/p>\n<p>It is easy to get one\u2019s\u00a0<strong>bus<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>ticket<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>online<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\/timetable\/lennujaam\/tartu\">Full timetable is available online<\/a>, the best are Lux Express buses, especially their Relax class.<\/p>\n<p>The only problem is that if you buy your ticket in advance and your plane happens to be late, you will lose your money. Some people buy their ticket online just before or after boarding the flight to Tallinn, when it is clear that there are unlikely to be any delays. Still a bit risky, but after all, we are not talking about an astronomical amount. The other option is buying your ticket <strong>online on arrival<\/strong> (there is excellent Wi-Fi at the airport). To reach the bus terminal, turn right as you exit the customs, and follow the signs.\u00a0Finally, if you see a bus ready to depart, you can also try to buy a ticket from the driver (subject to availability).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timewise<\/strong>, the bus usually arrives at the airport 10-15 minutes after the scheduled departure from the bus station (i.e. around 10 or 40 minutes after the hour). If you have checked luggage, it is usually delivered 10-15 minutes after the plane arrives at the gate, but delays are of course always possible (especially if you happen to be on a large plane).<\/p>\n<p>In Tartu, the bus station is located in the center, with Hotel Dorpat and Hotel Tartu right next to it, and within 10 minutes walking distance from other main hotels.<\/p>\n<p>Just in case the buses are full or you prefer to take a\u00a0<strong>train,<\/strong>\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/elron.ee\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/elron.ee\/en\">train timetable is available online (departure: \u00dclemiste)<\/a>. It is within a walking distance from the airport, but not easy to find. The best option is to take a taxi from the first floor (Arrivals level) to \u00dclemiste. Note that this is not the main train station, make sure the driver doesn\u2019t take you to a wrong place (the main one is called the Baltic Station or Balti jaam). In fact, it\u2019s just an open platform so don\u2019t leave the airport too early, the drive is 5-10 minutes max. Get on the train, find a seat and wait until the conductor finds you and sells you the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>In Tartu, the train station is located at about 20 minutes walking distance from the center, so it\u2019s best to take a taxi to your hotel, the stop is in front of the station. Check the location of your hotel as it might be within a walking distance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Debit cards<\/strong>\u00a0are preferred everywhere, but bus drivers and train conductors also accept cash. Most taxis accept cards but some don\u2019t, so cash is the safest option. Tips are not required.<\/p>\n<p>But please don\u2019t get us wrong: we are sure everything will work smoothly and you will get to Tartu without any delays.
