Overview of materials and techniques"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we can speak in detail about different analytical techniques, we have to speak about cultural heritage objects and materials of which they are made. On the other hand, there are many different analytical techniques, but not all of them are suitable for the analysis of cultural heritage objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This section is divided into three subsections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/heritage-analysis\/book\/11-cultural-heritage-analysis-object\">1.1. Cultural heritage as analysis object<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/heritage-analysis\/book\/12-chemistry-ageing\">1.2. Chemistry of ageing<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/heritage-analysis\/book\/13-analytical-techniques\">1.3. Analytical techniques<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8cf370e7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer wp-container-content-728072c3\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The first subsection gives a general overview of the various\u00a0 materials that are most commonly encountered in cultural heritage objects and their chemical composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second subsection addresses the topic of\u00a0ageing of the materials. In most cases the composition of the cultural heritage objects that have preserved to our days is at least somewhat different (sometimes strongly different) from the original composition.\u00a0Without knowing the chemistry of these materials and their behaviour during ageing it is impossible to understand and interpret the data obtained from the analytical techniques discussed in this online course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third subsection gives an\u00a0introductory overview about\u00a0the analytical techniques most commonly used for the analysis of\u00a0 cultural heritage materials and that will be discussed in detail later in this online course, classifying them according to the information that can be obtained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before we can speak in detail about different analytical techniques, we have to speak about cultural heritage objects and materials of which they are made.
