Seminar: Investigating groundwater using geochemical techniques: the BGS approach

Kuupäev:
03.10.2018 13:00 - 15:00

Asukoht:
Eesti geoloogiateenistuse suur saal Rakveres, Kreutzwaldi tn 5

Dr George Darling, Briti Geoloogiateenistusest esineb seminaril ettekandega "Investigating groundwater using geochemical techniques: the BGS approach"

Summary:

Investigating groundwater using geochemical techniques: the BGS approach

Like most of the other science directorates in the British Geological Survey (BGS), Hydrogeology is maintained from a variety of sources including discretionary funding, government department contracts, university grants and the commercial sector.  This means that our projects come in many shapes and sizes, which in turn has an effect on the investigation methods we decide to use, and whether hydrogeochemistry takes the lead or has a more subordinate role.  Underlying this is the challenge of extracting enough ‘science’ from the more routine projects to produce papers publishable in good-quality journals.  The talk will consider all these aspects by looking at a variety of case histories from BGS’s work in the UK and overseas.
