\n\tEach participant should select at least one home (one of these preferably their own) for dust sampling. Samples should be collected using cotton swabs (or swabs from analogous material) from four places in each home:\n<\/p>\n

  1. \n\t\tthe upper surface of house\u2019s exterior door = front door rim (door leading to outside of house)\n\t<\/li>\n
  2. \n\t\tthe upper surface of interior door rim (door separating living rooms in the flat)\n\t<\/li>\n
  3. \n\t\tthe upper surface of bathroom door rim,\n\t<\/li>\n
  4. \n\t\tcorner of a floor in a living room.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\tThe exterior door represents dust that originates mostly from outside of house. The interior door indicates dust generated in living rooms and\/or kitchen, whereas the bathroom door characterises dust and microbiota in the bathroom. The dust on upper door rims has typically accumulated for a long time. The floor corner represents heavier particles and more recent dust because of more common wiping and gives an idea about seasonality of dust components. From each four places, one dust sample should be collected with a sterile swab, preferably of type that can be placed into a separate holder tube. Swab samples should be taken from 50 cm (20 inch) long SINGLE gentle scrape of the surface of the door rim\u00a0(Figure 1;\u00a0do NOT moisten the swab!). \u00a0\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tFor each sample and home, the following important information should be recorded:\n<\/p>\n

    1. \n\t\tDate of collection\n\t<\/li>\n
    2. \n\t\tFull Address\n\t<\/li>\n
    3. \n\t\tWhat is the approximate age of your building? Is it renovated?\n\t<\/li>\n
    4. \n\t\tWhat kind of heating system you use during the winter?\n\t<\/li>\n
    5. \n\t\tDo you have a mechanical or natural ventilation?\u00a0\n\t<\/li>\n
    6. \n\t\tTime since last cleaned, if known (relevant mostly for floor corner)\n\t<\/li>\n
    7. \n\t\tThe number of residents?\n\t<\/li>\n
    8. \n\t\tDo you have domestic animals? Which?\n\t<\/li>\n
    9. \n\t\tDo you have houseplant(s) and how many?\n\t<\/li>\n
    10. \n\t\tHave you noticed condensation water on your windows in the winter?\n\t<\/li>\n
    11. \n\t\tHave you noticed mould problems in bathroom?\n\t<\/li>\n
    12. \n\t\tHave you had recently (within 3 months) water leaks, plumbing leaks etc?\n\t<\/li>\n
    13. \n\t\tDo you suspect being allergic to components of dust?\n\t<\/li>\n
    14. \n\t\tEmail or twitter contact or telephone of the contributor\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
