BAM \u2013Resistance to Antimicrobial Surfaces<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research group of Dr. Frank Schreiber at the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) has long-standing expertise in studying the evolution of antimicrobial resistance in response to exposure to biocides and antimicrobial surfaces. The group investigates how low or fluctuating efficacy of biocidal materials can drive resistance, cross-resistance to antibiotics, and bacterial persistence.
Within Fast-Real, BAM leads activities on the development and optimization of test methods to assess antimicrobial resistance development. This includes method standardization, validation through inter-laboratory ring tests, and the development of experimental models for resistance evolution under antimicrobial stress. A particular focus lies on testing how bacterial metabolic states and growth conditions influence susceptibility to antimicrobial surfaces and coatings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
