Welcome

The final conference of the EXCOSM project “Large-scale structure of the Universe: from galaxies to cosmology” will take place 30 August – 3 September 2027 in the Estonian National Museum, Tartu, Estonia.

The current era of large astronomical surveys and simulations produces massive amounts of new data. When combined with new analytical frameworks, it will allow for statistical inference to tackle many unsolved questions, such as the role of the cosmic web in the formation and evolution of galaxies. Observations show that environment of galaxies plays a major role in the star formation quenching, mass assembly, and even the orientation of the galaxies in the cosmic web filaments. Studying these phenomenon, it is crucial to develop a new more comprehensive models for cosmic web characterisation and use cosmological hydrodynamical simulation to understand and interpret the environmental processes affecting galaxies.

Key topics of the conference will thus consist of the theory, simulations, and observations of the cosmic web, and cosmic web and galaxies as new analytical frameworks, astronomical surveys and simulation data enable using statistical inference to push forward our understanding about the formation and evolution of galaxies.
