I 1970), writer and semiotician, was born in Suislepa village in Viljandimaa. He completed school there in 1985 and went on to study biology at the University of Tartu as an undergraduate. Mikita switched to semiotics for his post-graduate studies, completing his master\u2019s degree in 1994 with the thesis <em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Normid ja loov k\u00e4itumine. Harjutustik tavatu m\u00f5tlemise arendamiseks <\/em>(\u2018Norms and Creative Behavior. An Exercise Book To Develop Unconventional Thinking\u2019) and defending his doctoral dissertation <em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Kreatiivsusk\u00e4sitluste v\u00f5rdlus semiootikas ja ps\u00fchholoogias <\/em>(\u2018A Comparison of Creativity Treatments in Semiotics and Psychology\u2019) in 2000. He has since worked both as a teacher and for various companies in the medical industry.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva;\">Mikita\u2019s work often blurs the lines of genre, merging elements of fiction and semiotics. His first book, a collection of wordplay essays and poetry, <em>\u00c4parduse r\u00f5\u00f5m<\/em> (\u2018The Joy of Mishap\u2019) was published in 2000 and built on the themes of his doctoral thesis. His next book, <em>R\u00e4nnak impampluule riiki<\/em> (\u2018A Journey to the Kingdom of Hocus-pocus Poetry\u2019, 2001) also contained similar content. Those two books of highly experimental literature did not attract any maistream interest but created a cult following among some groups of students of humanities in Tartu and Tallinn. Mikita later published the essay <em>Kirsi\u00f5ieturundus: Visioon alternatiivsest turundusest <\/em>(\u2018Cherry Blossom Marketing: A Vision of Alternative Marketing\u2019, 2004), which presented ideas on the separation of culture and economy and their contrasts. This book relied on Mikita\u2019s work experience in pharmaceutical companies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva;\">Mikita\u2019s next essay collection <em>Metsik lingvistika<\/em> (\u2018Wild Linguistics\u2019, 2008) observed the connections of language, culture, nature, and the Estonian identity. In 2011, he published <em>Teoreem <\/em>(\u2018Theorem\u2019), which contained two short stores: <em>J\u00e4nesekapsa teoreem <\/em>(\u2018The Shamrock Theorem\u2019) and <em>N\u00f5ia teoreem <\/em>(\u2018Witch\u2019s Theorem\u2019). The former won the August Gailit Award in 2009. In 2013 a sequel to <em>Metsik lingvistika <\/em>was published: a collection of essays under the title <em>Lingvistiline mets: Tsibih\u00e4rblase paradigma. Teadvuse kiirendi <\/em>(\u2018LinguisticForest: The Wagtail Paradigm. Accelorator of Consciousness\u2019) and it was this book that gained Mikita widespread recognition, winning the\u00a0Literature Endowment Annual Award and the Virumaa Literature Award in 2014 and becoming longstanding national bestseller.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva;\">Valdur Mikita\u2019s <em>Lindvistika ehk metsa see lingvistika <\/em>(\u2018Birdistics or Off to the Woods with Linguistics\u2019) was published in 2015 and is the third and final part of the trilogy of essay books on language, synesthesia, inner dialogue and relations between Estonian psychology, landscape, culture and mythology.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva;\"><em>M.
