XII 1960) is a poet, cultural events organiser and art curator, born in Tartu.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">He graduated in 1979 from number 2 secondary school in Tartu and from the Tartu State University in 1990 in Estonian philology. Malin has been a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union since 1993, and of the Estonian Artists\u2019 Union since 2016. He has published art criticism under the pseudonym Henno V\u00e4ri. He is the son of the artists Ilmar Malin and Inge Malin and the brother of the artist Lea Malin.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">The subject of Jaan Malin\u2019s interest is surrealism in poetry and art. He has studied the work of Ilmar Laaban and compiled the book <i>Magneetiline j\u00f5gi <\/i>(\u2018Magnetic River\u2019, 2001), a selection of Laaban\u2019s translations, as well as Laaban\u2019s collected poems, <i>S\u00f5nade s\u00fclemid, s\u00fclemite s\u00fcsteemid <\/i>(\u2018Swarms of Words, Systems of Swarms\u2019, 2004), and a collection of palindromes, <i>Eludrooge ego-ordule <\/i>(lit. \u2018Life-drugs for the Ego-order\u2019, 2008).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Malin made his debut in 1981 with poetry in the journal <i>Looming<\/i>. His first poetry collections, <i>Mitu \u00fchte <\/i>(\u2018Several Ones\u2019, 1990), <i>Padi s\u00fcdamel <\/i>(\u2018Pillow on the Heart\u2019, 1990) and <i>Veel <\/i>(\u2018Still\u2019, 1997), contain personal lyrics with diverse influences, varied expression and an allusive style. He has published mini-prose in <i>Looming<\/i>. Malin\u2019s surrealist mini-prose has appeared in the book <i>Paraluulud <\/i>(roughly \u2018Paralyrics\u2019, 2000). In 2010 Malin produced the collection <i>Alati vahe: sahitud luulet 1978-2010 <\/i>(\u2018Always a Difference: Rustled Poetry 1978-2010\u2019). Malin has written the plays <i>Piht <\/i>(\u2018Confession\u2019) and <i>Ats<\/i>. In 2010 he produced the CD <i>ON<\/i>, for which he recorded 6 of his sound-poems. In 2015 Malin\u2019s \u2018asemantic\u2019 novel <i>Maa ja ilm <\/i>(\u2018Earth and Air\u2019), consisting of meaningless combinations of letters, appeared. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">From 2012 to 2019 Malin was primarily the founder and promoter of the LUUL publishing house. He has gained recognition as the initiator, main organiser and curator of the international interdisciplinary \u2018Hullunud Tartu\u2019 (\u2018Crazy Tartu\u2019) festival from 2010 to 2018. Malin achieved third place in the European Poetry Slam Days in Berlin in 2009. He has performed his sound-poetry in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, Romania, Portugal, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, England, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia and the USA.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Since 2011 Jaan Malin has been a member of the international Dadaist poetry grouping DAstrugistenDA.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><em><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">L.
