During World War II, he served in the Red Army. After the war, he worked as a journalist; from 1952\u20131955, studied at the journalism department of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia, from 1955\u201366 worked for the newspapers<em> S\u00e4de<\/em> and <em>Sirp ja Vasar<\/em>, the magazine <em>Pikker<\/em> and the literary journal <em>Looming<\/em>. From 1951\u20131990, he was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Suislepp was a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 1958. From 1966, he was a freelance writer in Tallinn, in summers he lived at Kassari on Hiiumaa Island. He was the husband of the youth writer <a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/r\/rannamaa\/\">Silvia Rannamaa<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">Suislepp made his debut with poems in the press in 1936. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, he participated in the activities of the Tallinn Young Authors Association. His first poetry collection <em>Tedret\u00e4hed<\/em> (\u2018Freckles\u2019) appeared in 1958. His poetry collection <em>Suure Vankri j\u00e4lgedes<\/em> (\u2018Following the Big Dipper\u2019, 1963) received general recognition.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">Like in many poets of his generation, Suislepp\u2019s poetry altered from the depiction of the atrocities of the war and optimistic dynamism in the direction of greater thoughtfulness and more concise wording. Characteristic features of Suislepp\u2019s creation are a sense of contemporaneity and civic dignity, a snug chuckle that is humorous rather than satirical. He has written lyrical poetry about sentiments and nature, epigrams, long poems, and three plays in verse. With his long poems <em>Aeg tuleb maa ja mere peal\u2026<\/em> (\u2018Time Will Come Upon the Sea and Land\u2019, autobiographical poem, 1968), <em>Parool KKK. Poistepoeem<\/em> (\u2018Password KKK. Boys\u2019 Poem\u2019, 1968) and <em>Perem\u00e4rk ajas, inimeses, maailmas<\/em> (\u2018The Family Sign in Time, People, the World\u2019, 1985) Suislepp made an essential contribution to the Estonian tradition of long poems.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">He also published numerous humorous pieces and topical satires and, in the 1970s\u20131980s, made speeches and wrote articles on writers\u2019 freedom of creativity. In 1975, Suislepp published a selection of critical articles, <em>Loominguline logiraamat<\/em> (\u2018Creative Logbook\u2019). Towards the end of his life, he described the circumstances of everyday life in newly independent Estonia in humorously satirical verse collections <em>K\u00f6\u00f6gertali kojutulek: lamba- ja ahviaasta p\u00e4evaraamat<\/em> (\u2018K\u00f6\u00f6gertal\u2019s Homecoming: Diary of the Years of Sheep and Monkey\u2019) and <em>Pung ja Pegasus<\/em> (\u2018Bud and Pegasus\u2019, 1998).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><em>L.
