He completed P\u00e4rnu Secondary School No. 1 in 1986 and studied journalism at the Faculty of Philology of Tartu State University from 1986\u20131987. He has worked as a guard, school attendant, newspaper carrier, computer compositor for the newspaper <em>Postimees<\/em>, journalist for the newspaper <em>Tartu Linnaleht<\/em>, editor of the newspaper <em>Eesti Kirik<\/em>. He is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 2005.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">J\u00fcri Kaldmaa has published two poetry collections \u2013 <em>Passioon<\/em> (\u2018Passion\u2019, 2000) and <em>Lapsevaev<\/em> (\u2018Child\u2019s Toil\u2019, 2004) \u2013 and the collection of plays <em>Kolmainsus<\/em> (\u2018Trinity\u2019, 2001). His poems, plays, reviews, essays and other writings have appeared in the journals <em>Looming<\/em>, <em>Vikerkaar<\/em>, <em>Teater. Muusika. Kino<\/em> and in the newspapers <em>Sirp\/Reede<\/em>, <em>Postimees<\/em>, <em>Eesti Ekspress<\/em> and elsewhere. J\u00fcri Kaldmaa\u2019s play <em>Surnud liblikate tants<\/em> (\u2018Dance of Dead Butterflies\u2019) won the first prize at the playwriting competition of the Ugala theatre in 1991.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">A characteristic feature of Kaldmaa\u2019s poetry is strict treatment of the form. He uses accentual-syllabic verse with end rhymes, preferring the iamb. The themes of his creation include love, loserly bohemianism, the slums of Tartu and melancholy blues.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Kaldmaa compiled <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><a data-url=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/s\/soelsepp\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/s\/soelsepp\" title=\"\">Venda S\u00f5elsepp<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">\u2019s memoirs and letters from the hard labour camp, <em>Kol\u00f5ma \u2014 kole maa<\/em> (\u2018Kolyma \u2014 a Horrible Land\u2019, 2021).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><em>L.
