Vaike Pilvistu (n\u00e9e Vaike Brenner, after the Estonianisation of the surname in 1940 Vaike Piirimaa, 17 August 1926 \u2013 6 March 1993) was a poet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilvistu was born in J\u00e4rvamaa County in the family of a farm labourer. She went to school in Viljandi and later studied at Polli Horticulture School and Vana-V\u00f5idu Vocational School. After completing the vocational school in 1946, Pilvistu worked as an agronomist in many places in Estonia. Her first job was in L\u00e4\u00e4nemaa County. For many years, she lived at Mooste in P\u00f5lva County. Due to an injury from an accident at work, she was unable to leave her home for years. To escape depression, she began to write poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilvistu\u2019s first poems were published in the newspaper Koit<\/em> at Lihula in L\u00e4\u00e4nemaa County in the 1950s. She participated in the activities of the P\u00f5lva literary club Helem<\/em>. Her poetry was published in almanacs, including the almanac S\u00f5na<\/em> (\u2018Word\u2019) published in 1981 by the journal Loomingu Raamatukogu<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vaike Pilvistu published three poetry collections: Hingeaken<\/em> (\u2018Window of the Soul\u2019) in 1982, K\u00e4ed<\/em> (\u2018Hands\u2019) in 1985 and Suur tee k\u00f5liseb k\u00f5rva<\/em> (\u2018Big Road Ringing in My Ears\u2019) in 1987. Her debut collection includes contemplative lyrical poetry characterized by acute perception of nature and lucid melancholy. Her poems reveal richness feelings and joy about nature and life. Pilvistu\u2019s poetry often speaks about rural life and internal human struggles. In her language, she used simple images and preferred free verse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilvistu\u2019s poems have been translated into Finnish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
