He studied literature and folklore at the University of Tartu; in 2014 he completed the master\u2019s thesis <em>\u00d6kokriitilise anal\u00fc\u00fcsi v\u00f5imalustest Uku Masingu loodusteksti \u201eM\u00e4lestusi taimedest\u201c n\u00e4itel<\/em> (\u2018On the Ways of Ecocritical Analysis Based on <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><a title=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/m\/ukumasing\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/m\/ukumasing\">Uku Masing<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">\u2019s Nature Book Memories about Plants\u2019). From 2014-2021, Vilu worked as the prose and managing editor of the young authors\u2019 literary journal <em>V\u00e4rske R\u00f5hk<\/em> and from 2019-2022 also hosted the mental health-dedicated radio programme <em>Katus<\/em> (\u2018Roof\u2019) at IDA Radio. From 2026, Vilu works as an editor of the journal Looming. He is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 2022.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">His debut collection <em>Oh seda p\u00e4ikest<\/em> (\u2018Oh, the Sun\u2019, 2013) enters into dialogue with Estonian nature poetry and stands out for its sensitivity of language. From his second collection <em>Ilma<\/em> (\u2018Without\u2019, 2014) onwards, Vilu has presented his poems in series. Ilma depicts the wandering of a character in a dystopic world which interprets the present-day reality. The fantasy theme is also represented in the collection <em>Igavene kevad<\/em> (\u2018Eternal Spring\u2019, 2015), which has also been called a novel in verse. It clearly foregrounds the problem of temporal shifts characteristic of Vilu.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">One of the penetrating themes in T\u00f5nis Vilu\u2019s creation is mental health, which is related to his personal experience. The problems of mental health also occupy the central place in the collection <em>Kink ps\u00fchholoogile<\/em> (\u2018A Gift to a Psychologist\u2019, 2016), which received the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><a title=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/s\/suits\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/s\/suits\">Gustav Suits<\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><\/span> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">Poetry Prize in 2017. The collection has been defined as documentary poetry. The book<em>Tundekasvatus: Jaapani surmaluuletused<\/em> (\u2018Sentimental Education: Japanese Poems of Death\u2019, 2020), which received the Literature Endowment Annual Award in 2021, continues the treatment of personal matters adding (sharp) reactions to political trends. An answer is also sought to the question how to be a good person. The collection <em>K\u00f5ik linnud valgusele<\/em> (\u2018All the Birds for Light\u2019, 2022), which received the Gustav Suits Poetry Prize in 2023, has been inspired by the memory of a friend who committed suicide. Its poetry is rich in transitions and sensitivity to language as characteristic of Vilu.<\/span><\/span><\/span> The collection <em>Vana hing<\/em> [\u2018Old Soul\u2019, 2023] deals with war, grief and the premature fatigue of a young person. The topic of the collection <em>Enne lapsi<\/em> [\u2018Before Children\u2019, 2025], as the title suggests, is children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00f5nis Vilu was awarded the title of Tartu City Writer in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\">A.
