Helju Rammo <\/span>(9. V 1926 \u2013 25. VII 1998) was a children\u2019s author and playwright.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tShe was born in Tallinn, the daughter of a florist, from 1934 to 1941 attended number 14 primary school in Tallinn, from 1941 to 1943 number 9 secondary school in Tallinn, and from 1947 to 1948 number 1 secondary school for Young Workers in Tallinn.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom 1950 to 1955 Helju Rammo worked on the newspaper Noorte H\u00e4\u00e4l<\/i>, and from 1960 to 1964 on the children\u2019s journals T\u00e4heke <\/i>and Pioneer<\/i>. From 1964 she was a professional writer in Tallinn. Helju Rammo was a member of the Writers\u2019 Union from 1978. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHelju Rammo\u2019s first story appeared in the press in 1947. Her first book, Salgajuht Mare <\/i>(\u2018Mare the Brigade Leader\u2019) came out in 1966. The book depicted school and Pioneer life through the prism of humour. Helju Rammo published three collections of short stories for young people: \u00dcka omamoodi poiss <\/i>(\u2018A Strange Boy\u2019, 1968), Passita t\u00e4ismees <\/i>(\u2018A Grown Man Without a Passport\u2019, 1970), and P\u00e4\u00e4ster\u00f5ngas iseendale <\/i>(\u2018A Life-belt for Oneself\u2019, 1983) and the children\u2019s books Riukaraamat <\/i>(\u2018A Book of Tricks\u2019, 1976), and Kogel-mogel<\/i> (\u2018Egg-nog\u2019, 1993). The tale Imekaru <\/i>(\u2018The Magic Bear\u2019, 1977) is a parody of an adventure story. The author tried to make her readers think and debate through humour.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHelju Rammo also wrote plays for children, published in the collections \u00dcks imelik pimesikum\u00e4ng <\/i>(\u2018A Strange Blind Man\u2019s Buff\u2019, 1975) and Pimesikum\u00e4ngust hambat\u00fclini <\/i>(\u2018From Blind Man\u2019s Buff to the Tooth Quarrel\u2019,1985). Helju Rammo\u2019s plays have been staged in Estonian theatres and outside of Estonia. Rammo also wrote radio plays and plays for adults.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHelju Rammo\u2019s stories have appeared in Russian, Belarusian, German and Latvian.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
