IX 1964)<b>\u00a0<\/b>is a humourist, journalist and music critic.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">He was born and educated at Otep\u00e4\u00e4 and studied journalism at Tartu State University, where he graduated in 1986. He has worked on the humorous magazine <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Pikker <\/span><\/i>and the newspaper <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Postimees<\/span><\/i>, and was the chief editor of the newspaper <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Nelli Teataja<\/span><\/i>. Juur has participated in and directed several popular television and radio programmes, such as the humour programmes <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Rahva Oma Kaitse <\/span><\/i>(\u2018The People\u2019s Own Defence\u2019) on Radio 2 (with Andrus Kivir\u00e4hk) and <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">\u00c4rapanija <\/span><\/i>(\u2018Hard Hitter\u2019) on television Channel 2 (with Peeter Oja) as well as the literature programme <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Kirjandus<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">ministeerium<\/span><\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i>(\u2018Ministry of Literature\u2019) on ETV. He has been a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union since 2008. He won the Oskar Luts Humour Prize\u00a0in 1998, the Estonian Librarians\u2019 Association journalism prize in 2013 and the Order of the White Star,\u00a0Class IV in 2019. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Juur\u2019s first piece of music criticism appeared in 1986 in the journal <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Noorus<\/span><\/i>; the first book of his to appear was the humorous collection <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Jamasuutra <\/span><\/i>(\u2018Crap Sutra\u2019, 1991). He is known mostly for his writings on music (see for example <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">101 Eesti popmuusika albumit <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">\u2013 \u2018<\/span><\/i>101 Estonian Pop Music Albums\u2019 \u2013\u00a02010) and for his various humorous collections. He has published humorous sketches, poetry and \u201ccalembours\u201d. His positive attitude to life is striking, and his wide reading creates a basis for his abundant intellectual intertextual play. His comedy makes use of character, situation and word-play, with a masterful command of language and words. His jokes are often connected to a particular time, situation or person.
