IV 1941) is a humourist, an author of humorous sketches. <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Priit Aimla was born in V\u00f5ru, the son of teachers. He lived the first three years of his life in V\u00f5ru. From 1948 to 1959 he attended Paide Secondary School. His father was the headmaster of the same school, his mother a mathematics teacher. From 1960 to 1962 and 1965 to 1966 he studied theoretical physics at Tartu State University; the intervening years were spent in the Soviet army. Later he studied English for one year at that university by distance learning. <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">He has written poetry, libretti and song lyrics. From 1968 to 1988 he was a producer of entertainment programmes on Estonian Radio. For these he translated many humorous stories by Russian authors. <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Aimla\u2019s humorous sketches make fun of Soviet conditions and the totalitarian system through absurd comedy. His dialogues have a fast tempo and rich word-play.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">He has translated Grigory Gorin\u2019s play <i><span style=\"font-style:italic\">Thijl Ulenspiegel <\/span><\/i>and its lyrics into Estonian. \u00a0<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">In 1980 Priit Aimla was a signatory of the \u2018letter of 40\u2019 denouncing the Russification policy of the Soviet Union.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">\n\t<em><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">L.\u00a0P.\u00a0(Translated by C.
