\n\tMerlin Piirve (since 2013 Kirikal<\/span>, 23. VIII 1986) is a prose writer and literary scholar.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKirikal studied Spanish language and culture at the universities of Tartu, Granada and Barcelona. She received master\u2019s degree in literature at the University of Tallinn where she also continues as a doctorate in cultural research. She has worked as an assistant and a lecturer in Spanish at the University of Tartu, and been a research secretary at the Under and Tuglas Literary Centre of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe main themes of her research are modernism, feminism and theories of the body, in the analysis of, for example, the works of Johannes Semper. She has written literary criticism, concentrating mainly on recent Estonian literature.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHer first book, \u00dche maailmavalutaja m\u00e4rkmed <\/i>(\u2018Notes from a Weltschmerz Suffer\u2019, 2012), which concentrates on a young woman\u2019s interior world, is striking in its stylised, sometimes rampant, \u2018aerobatic\u2019 use of language. The short story S\u00fc\u00fc <\/i>(\u2018Guilt\u2019, 2012) and some prose-poems (2017) appeared in the journal V\u00e4rske R\u00f5hk <\/i>and the short story Sulge uks vaikselt<\/i> (\u2018Close the Door Quietly\u2019, 2016) in Looming<\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
