She defended her candidate\u2019s degree in philology with the thesis <em>Luuleteoreetilise m\u00f5tte areng Eestis 1878\u20131917<\/em> (\u2018The Development of Theoretical Thought on Poetry in Estonia 1878\u20131917\u2019, 1989). She has worked as a teacher, at the Estonian Literary Museum and at the universities of Tartu and Helsinki. Olesk belongs to the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union (since 1999), the Mother Tongue Society, the Estonian Literary Society, the Estonian Association of Comparative Literature, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/r\/ristikivi\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2004\">Karl Ristikivi<\/a> Society and, as a foreign member, to the Finnish Literature Society. She was married to literary scholar <a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/o\/olesk\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2067\">Peeter Olesk<\/a> (1953\u20132021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olesk has been active as a critic and literary researcher since the early 1980s. She has mainly dealt with various aspects of Estonian poetry, Estonian-Finnish literary relations, the life and work of <a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/k\/ainokallas\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1388\">Aino Kallas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/ewod\/k\/koidula\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1540\">Lydia Koidula<\/a>, studied the history of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union and literary life in Soviet Estonia. Olesk is one of the authors of <em>Eesti kirjanduslugu<\/em> (\u2018History of Estonian Literature\u2019, 2001). W. Ponkala Award (1996), the Order of the White Star, 3rd Class (2000) and the Aino Kallas Award of Viro S\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6 (2006).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A. K. (Translated by I.
