Gregor Elm (born 25. August 1978) is a writer and poet.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\tHe has mostly held jobs related to seafaring. From 1997, Elm worked as an ordinary seaman on ocean-going ships, later as a deck officer on passenger ships. He has studied at Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences to become a sea captain. Elm has been captain of Lahesuu and Nasva harbours, but he has also studied at Tallinn Law Institute of the University of Tartu and cultural anthropology at the Institute of Theology of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gregor Elm has been a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 2014.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The characteristic feature of Elm\u2019s first book, the prose collection Kahel jalal kahevahel<\/em> (\u2018On Two Feet in Two Minds\u2019, 2002)<\/span><\/span><\/span>, was tender poetics. The novella Valmis nagu redis<\/em> (\u2018Ready as a Radish\u2019, 2005)<\/span><\/span><\/span> continued reflecting the moods of the moment, sometimes tending towards surrealism. In Elm\u2019s novel Karvane metseesel<\/em> (\u2018Hairy Wild Donkey\u2019, 2014)<\/span><\/span><\/span>, the author\u2019s semi-autobiographical narrative mingles with the protagonist\u2019s or protagonists\u2019 viewpoints. Critics have called Karvane metseesel<\/em> a punk or fantasy novel.<\/span><\/span><\/span> Broken Clock, 2 A.M.<\/em> (2026) is a novel consisting of short accounts told by many of its characters. The keywords of the book are \u2013 typically of Elm \u2013 sea, men, alcohol, absurd, humour, self-irony, and surreality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elm has also published several poetry collections<\/span><\/span><\/span>, including one for the children: Vaadates Larat, ehk, Muinasjutud vanaemadele<\/em> (\u2018Watching Lara, or Fairy Tales for Grandmas\u2019, 2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\tIn his later creation, Elm has continued the shrew game with absurd humour, self-irony, sometimes with sarcasm.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
