In 2020, Laurik graduated from the University of Tartu <em>cum laude<\/em> with a bachelor\u2019s degree in the speciality of information management. Since 2019, Mairi Laurik has been working at Tartu Public Library. A member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 2017.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Laurik began literary endeavours as a teenager, writing children\u2019s stories and poems. Laurik\u2019s science-fiction stories began to be published in the science-fiction magazine <em>Reaktor<\/em> founded in 2011. In 2015, Laurik\u2019s novel <em>S\u00fcsteem<\/em> (\u2018System\u2019) deserved an honourable mention at the novel competition of the Estonian Writer\u2019s Union; in 2016, it was published as a book. It is a postapocalyptic work of science fiction where the main lines of action unravel in Tartu and on the floodplains of the Emaj\u00f5gi River in distant future.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">In 2016, Laurik won the first place at the competition for young adults\u2019 novels arranged by the Estonian Children\u2019s Literature Centre and T\u00e4nap\u00e4ev publisher with his novel <em>Mina olen Surm<\/em> (\u2018I Am Death\u2019). The reviewers have said that the book makes one think about life but does not take away the will to live. In 2017, Laurik published the novel <em>Novembri\u00f6\u00f6 kirjad<\/em> (\u2018Letters from November Night\u2019) the action of which takes place in a gigantic nanotechnological industrial city that has been erected at the place of the present small town of Tamsalu in North Estonia. The book received the second place at the novel competition of T\u00e4nap\u00e4ev publishers in 2016. The novel <em>On aeg!<\/em> (\u2018It\u2019s Time!\u2019), published in 2021, is a sequel to the novel <em>Mina olen Surm<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">L.
