Markus V\u00e4in (born 7 March 1999) is a prose writer.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tV\u00e4in was born in Tallinn. He completed N\u00f5mme Gymnasium in Tallinn in 2018 and graduated from the University of Tartu with a BA in law in 2021. V\u00e4in is doing his master\u2019s studies in political science at Tallinn University. He is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 2022.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMarkus V\u00e4in has published two bulky thriller novels. In 2018, V\u00e4in achieved the third place at the novel competition of T\u00e4nap\u00e4ev publishers with his manuscript Illuminati<\/em>. In the novel, the prime minister\u2019s daughter discovers his father\u2019s secret, and the events develop at lightning speed. The author himself has commented Illuminati<\/em>: \u201cI wrote this book during my high school years. For me, this story is like a parody of evil. The point is that conspiracy theories, like all sorts of myths, which dictatorships and political extremism base themselves on, must be recognized and ignored. For they are the root of all evil, corrupting minds and causing disasters. Almost all characters in this book are delusional, bigoted and arrogant, but at the same time remain ridiculous and comical. The story runs a bit like an action movie-inspired spoof.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe thriller Loss<\/em> (\u2018Castle\u2019, 2021) is V\u00e4in\u2019s second novel. The protagonist is a young bank clerk who comes to visit the lord of the castle to manage his accounts and property, but a whirlpool of initially unexplainable events unravels. V\u00e4in\u2019s works reveal the author\u2019s broad erudition. In the novel Loss<\/em>, influences of Kafka\u2019s novel Das Schloss<\/em> and <\/span>Karl Ristikivi<\/a>\u2019s novel Hingede \u00f6\u00f6<\/em> (\u2018Night of Souls\u2019) can be found. The text also displays elements of magical realism.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
