Janika Kronberg (born 24 November 1963) is a literary researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kronberg was born and attended school in V\u00f5ru; from 1982\u20131989, he studied at the Faculty of Philology of Tartu State University, graduating from it in the speciality of Estonian literature. His master\u2019s thesis carried the title Eesti Kirjanike Kooperatiiv 1950\u20131994<\/em> (\u2018The Estonian Writers\u2019 Cooperative 1950\u20131994\u2019, 2001). He has been head of the Karl Ristikivi<\/a> Museum in Tartu, a researcher at the University of Tartu and the Estonian Literary Museum, also director of the latter (2005-2015) and chief editor of the journal Looming<\/em> (2016\u20132021). Kronberg is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union (chairman of its Tartu department from 1996\u20132005), a member of the student society Veljesto, the Estonian Literary Society, the Estonian Comparative Literature Association and Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies, and chairman of Karl Ristikivi Society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Kronberg\u2019s main research areas has been Karl Ristikivi\u2019s creation. Kronberg was engaged in founding the Karl Ristikivi Museum and has published numerous articles and books about Ristikivi, for example, H\u00e4sti valitud s\u00f5brad: artikleid Karl Ristikivist ja tema kirjanduslikust \u00fcmbrusest<\/em> (\u2018Well Selected Friends: Articles on Karl Ristikivi and His Literary Surroundings\u2019, 2016) and

In addition, he has been the compiler and editor of several collections, for example, the collection of Ristikivi\u2019s articles Viimne vabadus<\/em> (\u2018The Last Liberty\u2019, 1996), which was published in the series Eesti m\u00f5ttelugu (\u2018History of Estonian Thought\u2019). In addition to Ristikivi, he has studied the creation of other emigre Estonian writers and published general treatments of emigre Estonian literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Observations on history of literature are entwined with personal travel impressions in the book R\u00e4nnud kuue reisijuhiga<\/em> (2013) where the author\u2019s spiritual travel companions are, for example, the writers Friedebert Tuglas<\/a>, Henrik Visnapuu<\/a> and Karl Ast-Rumor<\/a> whose creation he has also discussed in several articles. The book won the Bernard Kangro<\/a> Literary Award and the travel book prize of the Go Travel travel agency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kronberg has also been awarded the Order of the White Star, Class 4 (2015) and the Henrik Visnapuu Award (2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
