Vootele Ruusmaa (born 23 March 1988) is a composer, musician and writer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ruusmaa was born in Kohtla-J\u00e4rve. From the age of 12, he lived and grew up in V\u00f5ru County. Ruusmaa graduated from the Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu in 2015 specialising in jazz singing. During his studies, he began to take interest in various forms of performing arts. He has continued his education abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vootele Ruusmaa writes poems, chooses and plays music to accompany them and performs his poetry texts. This is how the CD Audioluule reisip\u00e4evik<\/em> (\u2018Travel Diary of Audio Poetry\u2019) was created in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vootele Ruusmaa\u2019s debut collection of poetry Tavaline Don Quijote<\/em> (\u2018The Ordinary Don Quixote\u2019) was nominated for the Betti Alver<\/a> Debut Prize in 2018. The lyrical book comprises of succinct reflections on inner life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2021, Ruusmaa published the poetry book Purgatoorium<\/em> (\u2018Purgatory\u2019) for which he received the Bernard Kangro<\/a> Literary Award. The book is an intimate obituary to the author\u2019s father who deceased a few years earlier \u2014 Arthur Ruusmaa, a well-known historian of V\u00f5ru County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At a public reading in 2022, during a mentor programme to develop Estonian playwriting, the actors of Theatrum performed Vootele Ruusmaa\u2019s play Sjoo linna uulitsate tuska<\/em> (\u2018Sorrow of That Town\u2019s Streets\u2019). The play speaks about the town of V\u00f5ru and the poet Artur Adson<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vootele Ruusmaa has said that music and literature are visual for him: each story or poem is an impressionist picture. The essential features for the author in his creation are the tone of sound, minimalism, images and atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n L. P. (Translated by I.
