He completed secondary school in Tartu and, thereafter, studied medicine at the University of Tartu. After graduating from the university in 1973, he worked as a physician at different hospitals in Tallinn and its surroundings until 1997. From 1997, he has lived in Tallinn as a freelance writer. Peeter Urm has been a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union from 1996.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Urm made his debut with the story <em>Doktor Harri R\u00e4vel<\/em> (\u2018Doctor Harri R\u00e4vel\u2019) in the journal <em>Looming<\/em> in 1980 and, in the following year, published the novel <em>Viimane raund<\/em> (\u2018The Last Round\u2019). Both deal with the ethical questions of the medical profession and hospital life. Urm\u2019s next book, <em>P\u00e4ike tules<\/em> (\u2018The Sun on Fire\u2019, 1982) is a psychological crime novel. The trilogy of novels <em>Siinpool paradiisi<\/em> (\u2018On This Side of Paradise\u2019, 1993), <em>Provintsiarst<\/em> (\u2018Provincial Doctor\u2019, 1994) and <em>H\u00fcvastij\u00e4tt<\/em> (\u2018Farewell\u2019, 1996) is based on the life of the renowned Estonian medical scientist Arnold Seppo (1917\u20131980). The author connects the prototype\u2019s biographical facts with the creation of his own fantasy. For the first two novels of the trilogy, Urm received the Eduard Vilde Prize in Literature in 1995. In 2001, Urm published the crime novel <em>V\u00e4ikelinna \u0161erif<\/em> (\u2018Small Town Sheriff\u2019).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">Peeter Urm has written radio plays and received awards at competitions of filmscripts and plays. He wrote the script for the 40-part television serial <em>V.E.R.I. = Valu. Elu. Raha. Ilu<\/em> (\u2018B.L.O.O.D. = Pain. Life. Money. Beauty\u2019) which was shown on Estonian Television from 1995\u20131996.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\">L.
