\n\tMarko Kompus (born 1 April 1972) is a poet.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKompus was born in V\u00f5ru as the son of a collective farm chairman and a chief veterinary surgeon. He studied at P\u00f5lgaste and at P\u00f5lva Secondary School. From the beginning of his career, he has been a freelance poet. Kompus is a member of the literary grouping Erakkond and, from 2005, of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHis debut collection Koirohusein<\/em> (\u2018Wormwood Wall\u2019, 1998) stands out with idiosyncratic surrealist poetry, which has matured in the following collections, ever more refusing logical analysis. An essential place belongs to vivid creation of images, playfulness, music of the language and also rebellion against the language. The collection Poeedinahk<\/em> (\u2018Poet\u2019s Skin\u2019, 2014), which received the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Gustav Suits<\/a><\/span><\/span> Poetry Prize, refers among other things to Estonians\u2019 general cultural knowledge, the fragments of which are intertwined with Kompus\u2019 poetic language.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJaan-J\u00fcrgen Klaus has made a film about Kompus, Erakpoeet Marko Kompus<\/em> (\u2018Hermit Poet Marko Kompus\u2019, 2005).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
