Saar, 4. XI 1916 \u2013 28. III 2003) was a translator and prose writer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Toomaspoeg was born in the village of J\u00e4rve in Harku parish, Harju county. From 1924 to 1935 he attended E. Lender\u2019s Gymnasium of the Humanities in Tallinn, and from 1936 to 1941 studied in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Tartu. From 1944 to 1947 Toomaspoeg worked in the literature department of Estonian Radio, from 1950 to 1955 in the editorial office of the newspaper <i>Noorte H\u00e4\u00e4l<\/i> and from 1965 to 1967 in the Valgus publishing house.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Toomaspoeg translated several novels from German into Estonian, among them works by E.T.A. Hoffmann, L. Feuchtwanger and F. D\u00fcrrenmatt.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Toomaspoeg made her debut with stories in the journal <i>Eesti Noorus <\/i>in 1934. From 1960 to 1963 the journal <i>Looming <\/i>published five of Toomaspoeg\u2019s short stories, including \u2018V\u00f5tmehoidjad\u2019 (\u2018The Key-holders\u2019), which was awarded second prize in <i>Looming<\/i>\u2019s short story competition in 1962.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">In the <i>V\u00f5tmehoidjad <\/i>collection, which appeared in 1964, Toomaspoeg assembled the best of her short prose, adding some reminiscent stories. Aino Toomaspoeg\u2019s stories are psychologically finely tuned and at times humorous.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-weight:normal\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\"><i>L.
