VII 1971) is an author and artist.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 108%;\">She was born and educated in Tallinn, including the Estonian Academy of Arts, where she earned her master\u2019s degree in graphic art in 1998. She has worked mainly as a freelance artist and author. Since 2006 she is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union. She has been awarded many prizes for both her artistic and her literary works. For example, in 2004 she won first prize in a children\u2019s story competition with her book <i>Ernesto k\u00fc\u00fclkud <\/i>(\u2018Ernesto\u2019s Rabbits\u2019, 2004), the Literature Endowment Annual Award in 2005 for <i>Sanna ja salak\u00fctid <\/i>(\u2018Sanna and the Poachers\u2019, 2005), in 2008 for <i>Printsess Luluu ja h\u00e4rra Kere <\/i>(\u2018Princess Lulu and Mr. Body\u2019, 2008), and in 2015 for <i>Lugu Sandrist, Murist, tillukesest emmest ja n\u00e4htamatust Akslist <\/i>(\u2018The Story of Sander, Muri, the Tiny mummy and the Invisible Aksel\u2019, 2015). She has received several Good Children\u2019s Book awards, for <i>Tobias ja teine B <\/i>(\u2018Tobias and the Second Grade\u2019, 2010), <i>Natuke napakad lood <\/i>(\u2018Slightly Silly Stories\u2019, 2012), <i>Lugu Sandrist, Murist, tillukesest emmest ja n\u00e4htamatust Akslist <\/i>(2015), <i>K\u00f5ik minu sugulased <\/i>(\u2018All My Relatives\u2019, 2017), <i>Lugu v\u00e4ikesest majast, kes tahtis olla kodu <\/i>(\u2018The Story of the Little House that Wanted to be a Home\u2019, 2018) and <i>K\u00f5rv <\/i>(\u2018The Ear\u2019, 2019). <i>H\u00e4rra linnu lugu <\/i>(\u2018Mr. Bird\u2019s Story\u2019, 2009) won the Rasin of the Year and The White Ravens awards.<i> <\/i>The latter was also won for <i>Kolm soovi <\/i>(\u2018Three Wishes\u2019, 2012). The IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) honourable listing was won by <i>Printsess Luluu ja h\u00e4rra Kere<\/i>. In 2020 she won the A.H. Tammsaare literary prize for the novel <i>Verihurmade aed <\/i><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">(\u2018The Garden of Celandines\u2019, 2019)<\/span>. In 2016 she was awarded the Order of the White Star, class IV. Her parents are the children\u2019s authors Eno Raud (1928-1996) and Aino Pervik (b.1932); her brothers are the writers Rein (b. 1961) and Mihkel Raud (b.1969).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 108%;\">Piret Raud, one of the most successful and frequently translated children\u2019s authors and artists, is striking for her clearly individual style, and her unique literary and visual world. She is playful, humorous, clich\u00e9-breaking and has a gift for the absurd. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 108%;\">Her debut novel written for adults, <i>Initsiaal purjeka ja papagoiga <\/i>(\u2018Initial with Sailboat and Parrot\u2019, 2018) deals with, among other things, the need for recognition, and it leads the reader into the world of calligraphy and art. In the novel <i>Verihurmade aed,<\/i> the lives of different characters are intertwined, and the theme of closeness and hope comes to the fore.
