\n\tIgor Kotjuh (born 22. V 1978) is a poet, journalist and translator; one of the main promoters of Estonian-Russian literature.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKotjuh was born and attended school in V\u00f5ru. He studied Estonian as a foreign language and Estonian literature at the University of Tartu and literary studies at Tallinn University. He is a doctoral student at the University of Tartu. Kotjuh was the founder of the Estonian-Russian literary grouping Tuulelohe (Kite) and its leader in its period of existence in 2003\u20132006. He is the founder and editor of the publishing company Kite, managing editor of the publishing company Tuum, chief editor of the Estonian-Russian literature portal oblaka.ee, teacher of Estonian language and literature at Koigi school, a member of the Estonian PEN-Club and, from 2006, of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe debut collection of Kotjuh, who writes in both Estonian and Russian, \u041a\u043e\u0433\u0434\u0430 \u043d\u0430\u0441\u0442\u0443\u043f\u0438\u0442 \u0437\u0430\u0432\u0442\u0440\u0430?<\/em> (\u2018When Will Tomorrow Come?\u2019) appeared in 2005, his first collection in Estonian, Teises keeles<\/em> (\u2018In My Second Language\u2019), in 2007. The latter received the Bernard Kangro Literary Award in the same year. Kotjuh\u2019s poetry, which deals with both social and lyrical themes, has a thoughtful undertone. An essential place belongs to the questions of identity, the native and the alien, one of the driving forces for it is his own multilingual background. The author uses the concept of the genre derived by himself \u2014 the esseme \u2014 which connects the poem and the essay. The collection Sireenid ja s\u00e4hvatused<\/em> (\u2018Sirens and Plumes\u2019, 2022) contains poems written in Estonian and those translated from Russian. They reflect both personal and social crises, especially the events of the Ukrainian war.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKotjuh has received three times the Literature Endowment Annual Award for the author writing in Russian: for \u042d\u0441\u0442\u043e\u043d\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u0434\u0438\u0437\u0430\u0439\u043d<\/em> (\u2018Estonian Design\u2019, 2013), \u0415\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0435\u043d\u043d\u043e \u043e\u0441\u043e\u0431\u0435\u043d\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0441\u043b\u0443\u0447\u0430\u0439<\/em> (\u2018A Naturally Special Case\u2019, 2017) and The Isolation Tapes. C\u0442\u0438\u0445\u043e\u0442\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0435\u043d\u0438\u044f \u0438 \u0437\u0430\u043c\u0435\u0442\u043a\u0438<\/em> (\u2018The Isolation Tapes. Poems and Observations\u2019 2020). In addition, he has received the Annual Award of the journal Looming<\/em> (2004), the Estonian President\u2019s Young Cultural Figure Award (2011), the Order of the White Star, class V, and the Tallinn municipal medal (2015).\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKotjuh has researched the Russian-language literature of Estonia in detail. He has translated Estonian poetry, children\u2019s literature and essays into Russian and Russian poetry and essays into Estonian. He is the editor of several anthologies and soloist of the jazz-poetry band FSK.\n<\/p>\n
