Filimonov <\/span>(given name Roman Fokin; b. 4. III 1975) is a Russian-Estonian poet and prose writer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">He was born and educated in Tallinn, studying English philology at the Tallinn Pedagogical University. He has worked as an English teacher. He is a member of the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union since 2011. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">P. I. Filimonov is one of the most remarkable Russian-language authors to emerge in Estonian literature since 2000, earning attention with his debut novel <i>\u0417\u043e\u043d\u0430 \u043d\u0435\u0435\u0432\u043a\u043b\u0438\u0434\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0439 \u0433\u0435\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0440\u0438\u0438<\/i> (\u2018The Zone of Non-Euclidean Geometry\u2019, 2007, translated into Estonian in 2010), which is constructed on the basis of the mutual relations between the well-known \u2018little people\u2019 in Gogol\u2019s and Chekhov\u2019s works. The novel <i>Thalassa! Thalassa! <\/i>(2013) casts a look at the world of religious sects; <i>\u041f\u0435\u043b\u0430, \u043f\u043e\u043a\u0430 \u0432\u0441\u0451 \u043de \u0437\u0430\u043a\u043e\u043d\u0447\u0438\u043b\u043e\u0441\u044c<\/i> (\u2018She Sang Until It All Stopped\u2019, 2015, translated intto Estonian<i> <\/i><span style=\"font-style:normal\">in <\/span>2016) looks at the special world of Russian <i>baba<\/i>s (old ladies) who are seen as peculiarly Russian. Olimp, who looks after her grandmother, becomes wrapped in the tales told by the grandmother in this novel and ends up in a time-warp in the Communist era. The world of Russian bohemians or fortune-hunters of the recent past is the subject of the novel <i>Hariton Naganovi surm ja ajatus <\/i>(\u2018The Death and Timelessness of Hariton Naganov\u2019, 2017). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">Characteristic of Filimonov are trickiness, (post-modernist) play with genres, unexpected turns, (self-) irony and absurdity. Also characteristic of his poetry are post-modernism, nods to Russian and world literature, the mixing of the contemporary and the traditional. Notable in the poetry collection <i>V\u00e4\u00e4rastuste k\u00e4siraamat <\/i>(\u2018A Handbook of Freakery\u2019, 2011) are the abundant stylistic games and foreign vocabulary. <i> <\/i> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\">In 2007 Filimonov was awarded the Russian-language author\u2019s prize of the Literature Endowment of Estonia for his poetry collection <i>\u041c\u0430\u043d\u0442\u0440\u044b \u0442\u0440\u0435\u0442\u0435\u0433\u043e \u043f\u043e\u0440\u044f\u0434\u043a\u0430 <\/i>(\u2018Mantras of the Third Degree\u2019, 2007); he won a media stipend from the department of integration of the Ministry of Culture for the radio programme <i>S\u00f5naline vitraa\u017e <\/i>(\u2018Verbal Mosaic\u2019, with Igor Kotjuh, 2012), and in 2020 the Friedebert Tuglas short story prize for the story <i>Sebastian R\u00fc\u00fctli t\u00f5ehetk<\/i> (\u2018Sebastian R\u00fc\u00fctel\u2019s Moment of Truth\u2019, 2019).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0.11in\">\n\t<span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-size:13px\"><span style=\"font-family:Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:108%\"><i>A.
