Jan Rahman (born 30 VII 1975<\/span>) is a writer and journalist.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHe was born in V\u00f5ru and completed V\u00f5ru Kreutzwald Secondary School No. 1<\/span> in 1993. From 1993\u20132004,<\/span> Rahman studied journalism at the University of Tartu<\/span>. He has been a member of Tartu Young Authors\u2019 Association and<\/span> is a member of the V\u00f5ro Language and Culture Fund (2001\u20132006 its chairman).<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRahman works as the chief editor of Uma Leht<\/span><\/i>, a newspaper published in the V\u00f5ro language (a regional variety of Estonian). He contributes to the press and radio. He writes poetry, prose, plays, criticism and song lyrics mostly in the V\u00f5ro language and translates texts into V\u00f5ro. Jan Rahman has translated the scenes concerning the Athens artisans in Shakespeare\u2019s comedy A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/i> from English into V\u00f5ro. He has also translated Hasso Krull\u2019s poetry from Estonian and Heli Laaksonen\u2019s poetry from the southwestern dialect of Finnish into V\u00f5ro.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 1997, Rahman published a poetry collection in the V\u00f5ro language, Vas\u00f5st va\u015bk<\/i> (\u2018Copper from Copper\u2019), which included the lyrics of the hits of the pop group Ummamuudu<\/i>. Jointly with Heli Laaksonen, Rahman published the poetry collection Maapuup\u00e4iv<\/i> (\u2018Earth Tree Day\u2019) in Finland in 2000. The second edition of the book appeared in 2006.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAlong with Aapo Ilves, Contra, Olavi Ruitlane and Jaan Pulk, Jan Rahman was among the authors of the poetry collection Viie p\u00e4\u00e4le<\/i> (\u2018Divided Between Five\u2019) published in 2005. In 2006, Rahman published the children\u2019s book V\u00e4vv\u00e4<\/i> in both Estonian and V\u00f5ro. For the plays written in V\u00f5ro, Painaja<\/i> (\u2018Haunter\u2019) and S\u00f5it<\/i> (\u2018Ride\u2019), Rahman received the Bernard Kangro literary award in 2006. The play Painaja<\/i>, which is based on Juhan Jaik\u2019s ghost stories, was written for V\u00f5ru Teatriateljee (V\u00f5ru Theatre Workshop). The programme booklet called the play, \u201cV\u00f5ro horror\u201d; the play S\u00f5it<\/i> consists of funny stories about the incredible happenings of V\u00f5ro people during a bus ride.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
