\n\t\"Kalju<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kalju Konsin (23 January 1929 \u2013 31 January 2023) was a zootechnician, ethnographer and poet.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKonsin was born at V\u00f5\u00f5pste village in M\u00e4ksa parish, Tartu County. He completed Tartu Secondary School No. 1 in 1947. He entered the Faculty of Agriculture at Tartu State University and, after the reorganisation of the university, continued his studies at the Estonian Agricultural Academy from which he graduated in 1952, being among the first class of zootechnicians.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom 1960\u20131983, Kalju Konsin worked at the State Ethnography Museum of the Estonian SSR (the later Estonian National Museum), at first as a researcher, from 1976 as research secretary. From Konsin\u2019s 24 years of work, the museum archive stores 24 volumes of reference material collected at expeditions, 22 field work diaries, more than 2200 photos and a great number of material objects. From 1984\u20131989, Kalju Konsin participated in the work of the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts at the USSR Academy of Arts. He studied folk art, particularly textile and women\u2019s handicraft.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKonsin\u2019s first poetry collection appeared in 2003. At his own expense, he published more than 20 thin poetry books which he designed himself. Konsin was influenced by the authors whose poems he read in his youth and recited at festive events: <\/span><\/span><\/span>Juhan Liiv<\/a><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Ernst Enno<\/a><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Gustav Suits<\/a><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Marie Under<\/a><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Betti Alver<\/a><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bernard Kangro<\/a><\/span><\/span>. He had met several of them in person. The verses of Kalju Konsin\u2019s poems are concise, sometimes with end rhymes, sometimes without, usually short; the ideas are expressed clearly. In his poems, the author regards his hometown, homeland and the surrounding world as a sapient citizen of Tartu; he feels joy about the beautiful and valuable and sadness about dishonest deeds.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
