![]() | Maarja-Liisa Pilvik, doctoral studentJunior Research Fellow of Applied Dialectology In my dissertation, I study action nominal constructions with the suffix -mine (laulmine ‘singing’) and their nominal and verbal properties in Estonian dialects and in the Finnic language continuum in general. I am particularly interested in the modal and aspectual features of such constructions, but also in the structure, function and spread of -mine forms in spoken spontaneous language in comparison to written language. Mirjam Ruutma, doctoral studentI am focused on studying adpositions in Estonian dialects. In my master’s studies, my main interest lay in ambipositions (i.e. adpositions that can occur as both pre- and postpositions), but in my dissertation, I am looking at the relationship between analytic adpositional phrases and the corresponding synthetic case forms in dialects. I am interested in their geographical distribution and intra- and extralinguistic factors, that influence the choice between the two parallel constructions.
