The distance between Tallinn, Estonia\u2019s capital, and Tartu is 186 km, or about 2 hours by train and 2.5 hours by express bus or car.\n<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<strong>Travelling to Estonia by Plane<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\tThe largest international airport in Estonia is located in <strong>Tallinn<\/strong>, the capital of Estonia, with direct flights from many major European cities. Information on airlines, schedules and customs is available on the website of\u00a0<a data-url=\"https:\/\/www.tallinn-airport.ee\/en\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tallinn-airport.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport<\/a>.\u00a0\n\t<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\tOne more possibility is to fly via\u00a0<strong>Riga<\/strong>, the capital of Latvia (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.riga-airport.com\/\">http:\/\/www.riga-airport.com\/<\/a>). However, bus connection between Riga airport and Tartu is much less frequent, check\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/luxexpress.eu\/en\">https:\/\/luxexpress.eu\/en<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ecolines.net\/international\/en\">https:\/\/ecolines.net\/international\/en<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0buy the tickets in advance.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<strong>Travelling to Tartu (from Tallinn)<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\t<strong>Bus <\/strong>(more information &amp; tickets: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\/\">https:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\/<\/a> or https:\/\/luxexpress.eu\/en\/ -luxexpress website might offer cheaper tickets). Tickets can be bought online and downloaded to a smartphone.\u00a0Tickets from the driver are available only when there are free spots on the bus. The buses tend to be full (especially on Fridays and Sundays)\u00a0so we recommend buying tickets a few days to a week before departure. Buses are rather frequent: on average, they depart every 30 minutes, however, there are no late-night buses. The bus can be boarded from either<strong> Tallinn bus station<\/strong> or <strong>Tallinn Lennart Meri airport.<\/strong> If you are planning to come straight to Tartu, without visiting Tallinn, please book <strong>Tallinn airport \u2013 Tartu bus.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\tBoarding the bus from the airport: to reach the bus terminal, turn right as you exit the customs, and follow the signs.\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\tGetting to the Tallinn bus station from the airport: the easiest way is to take a taxi. Public transportation: tram number 4 (in direction Tondi; from stop \u201cLennujaam\u201d to stop \u201cBussijaam\u201d) and a short 5-minute walk from the main road to the bus station; bus number 2 (in direction Balti Jaam; from stop \u201cLennujaam\u201d to stop \u201cBussijaam\u201d) and a short 5-minute walk from the main road to the bus station.\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\t<strong>Train <\/strong>(more information &amp; tickets: <a href=\"https:\/\/elron.ee\/en\">https:\/\/elron.ee\/en<\/a>).\u00a0Tickets can be bought online and downloaded to a smartphone.\u00a0Tickets are also available on the train. 1st class tickets (with allocated seats) tend to be sold out so we recommend buying them a few days before departure. The regular tickets do not have allocated seats.\u00a0Trains run about 10 times per day. Note that the train schedule is currently only available ten days in advance, but it is unlikely to change significantly.\u00a0The train can be boarded from either the <strong>main train station<\/strong> (Balti jaam) or <strong>\u00dclemiste <\/strong>(the station closest to the airport).\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\tBoarding the train from \u00dclemiste station: the easiest way to get to \u00dclemiste station is to take a taxi or a short (15-20 minute) walk. Public transportation: tram number 4 (in direction Tondi; from stop \u201cLennujaam\u201d to stom \u201c\u00dclemiste jaam\u201d and a short walk to the train station.\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t\t\tBoarding the train from the main train station (Balti jaam):\u00a0the easiest way to get to Balti jaam is to take a taxi.
