Koloonia koosneb v\u00e4ikestest loomikutest ja tekib algsest \u00fcksikloomikust korduva pungumise tulemusena. Kogu loomakoloonia v\u00f5ib kasvada kuni poole meetri suurusks, sammallooma \u00fcksikisend v\u00f5i loomik on aga mikroskoopiliselt v\u00e4ike. Masssivsed sammalloomade kolooniad v\u00f5ivad meenutada koralle, v\u00e4liselt v\u00f5ib vahet teha selle j\u00e4rgi, et sammalloomade loomikud on v\u00e4iksemad kui korallide omad. Teiselt poolt on m\u00f5nedel sammalloomadel teatav v\u00e4line sarnasus k\u00f5rgemate taimedega ja ka vetikatega, sellest siis ka kogu h\u00f5imkonna nimetus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEesti\u00a0<a data-url=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/eluarengmaal\/ordoviitsium\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/eluarengmaal\/ordoviitsium\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Ordoviitsiumi<\/a>\u00a0ja\u00a0<a data-url=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/eluarengmaal\/silur\" href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/eluarengmaal\/silur\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Siluri<\/a>\u00a0lubjakivides on sammalloomad tavalisimad kivistised.
