Yerevan State University, Armenia

Yerevan State University (YSU) is one of the leading educational, research and cultural institutions in Armenia. Established in 1919, it has more than 18 000 students (including over 610 foreign students) studying at 20 faculties and more than 100 000 graduates. About 700 out of 1200 YSU academic staff have doctoral degree. YSU presented the MoES model curricula and specialities standards in various fields that was accepted and recommended to other institutions of higher education. YSU is part of various international educational projects and has a successful history of implementation of various EU Projects: Jean Monnet, Tempus grants, Erasmus Mundus Action 2 including those in the fields of UM, developing new curricula and internal QA system, etc.

The Centre for European Studies (CES) being part of YSU was established in 2007 with the support of the European Commission. YSU’s Centre for European Studies provides graduate education in the field of European Studies and Human Rights and Democratisation carries out specialized and multidisciplinary researches and provides consulting to NGOs, public and private organizations dealing with EU affairs. CES has successfully implemented Jean Monnet Module on “European Integration and the South Caucasus”, starting in September 2010. The same year CES received a grant aimed at establishing MA in Human Rights and Democratization in the Eastern Partnership region. The project was implemented under EIDHR funding. Since 2013 the Centre has been a part of the Global Campus of Master Degrees and Diplomas in Human Rights and Democratisation and successfully cooperates with European Inter-University Centre, Human Rights Village, in Venice-Lido and receives annual European Commission funding aimed at implementation of the MA in Human Rights and Democratisation in the Caucasus programme.

Within the DESCnet consortium, YSU is responsible for organization and coordination of Summer School Yerevan 2017.
