He has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals on different aspects of de facto state dynamics. He is\u00a0co-editor of <em>The Politics of International Interaction with De Facto States: Conceptualising Engagement without Recognition<\/em> (Routledge, 2018) and co-author of <em>De Facto States and Land-for-Peace Agreements: Territory and Recognition at Odds<\/em> (Routledge, 2022). He is the author of\u00a0<i>International Society and the De Facto State<\/i>\u00a0(Routledge 1998\/2019) and has published in such journals as\u00a0<i>African Affairs<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Extractive Industries and Society<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Foreign Policy Analysis<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Geoforum<\/i>,\u00a0<i>International Studies Perspectives\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Journal of Modern African Studies<\/i>. Dr. Pegg served as an international election observer for Somaliland\u2019s presidential election in 2017 and its parliamentary and local council elections in 2021 and Somaliland\u2019s political development remains one of his central research interests.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 6pt; text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"355\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-367\" style=\"width: 160px; height: 114px; margin: 1px 10px; float: right;\" title=\"toomla.png\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/398\/toomla.png\" alt=\"Raul Toomla\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/398\/toomla.png 500w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/398\/toomla-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\"><strong>Raul Toomla<\/strong> is a Lecturer of International Relations at the University of Tartu. He defended his PhD thesis on <em>De Facto States in International System: Conditions for (In-)formal Engagement<\/em> (University of Tartu, 2014). His main research focus is on the engagement of de facto states. Using set-theoretical methods, he attempts\u00a0to determine their position in the international system. She defended her PhD in War Studies (Kings College London, 2019). Her research focuses on dynamics of frozen conflicts in the post-Soviet space, de facto states, democratisation and international peace-building efforts. He defended his PhD thesis on\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><em>Contested States: The Struggle for Survival and Recognition in the Post-1945 International Order<\/em> (European University Institute, 2020)<\/span><span style=\"line-height: normal;\">. Her research interests include de facto state agency and international engagement. She has published on foreign policy endeavours of Post-Soviet de facto states.
