{"id":8,"date":"2024-04-04T07:10:47","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T04:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/datasearch\/registers-repositories\/"},"modified":"2024-04-04T07:10:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T04:10:53","slug":"registers-repositories","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/datasearch\/registers-repositories\/","title":{"rendered":"Registers of Repositories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong>A register\u00a0of repositories\u00a0is\u00a0a database of trusted open repositories that serves two purposes:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n\t\tResearchers can find repositories where they can upload their own research data for long-term storage.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAnyone interested in research data (researchers, citizen scientists, politicians, journalists, entrepreneurs) can find, download and reuse the data.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0<br><strong>Register is actually a catalogue of metadata about repositories.<\/strong><br>Repositories are characterized by the following metadata:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tthe web address of the repository\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tthe existence of a repository policy\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\ttype of repository (universal, institutional, disciplinary)\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tmain data types\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tlist of subject areas\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\topen or closed\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tpersistent identifiers used\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tlicenses used\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tsoftware\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tcountry\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tmanaging institution\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tyear of establishment\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tquality certificate\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tcompatibility with the OAI-PMH protocol\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tetc.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n\t\tWhen starting a dataset\u00a0search in the register of repositories, you need to search by a rather wide subject field, find a data repository of interest to you and continue the search inside the selected repository.\n\t<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<h2>\n\tRegistry of Research Data Repositories (re3data)<br>\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"614\" height=\"247\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/487\/capture8.png\" title=\"capture8.png\" alt=\"re3data\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/487\/capture8.png 614w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/487\/capture8-300x121.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\">\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a data-url=\"\/datasearch\/re3data.org\" href=\"\/datasearch\/re3data.org\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">re3data.org<\/a> is the global register of open research data repositories.<br>More than 2,600 repositories have so far been registered since 2012.<br>The registry offers 41 filters to refine your search. However, it should be noted that filtering does not always give good results, as the repository manager has not provided very comprehensive metadata.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA clear system of icons helps you understand:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\twhether the repository is open or closed\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tinformation about licenses\u00a0\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\twhich persistent identifier is used (DOI, hdl, purl, etc.)\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\twhether the repository has a certificate, etc.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ikoonid\" height=\"138\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/sites\/default\/files\/andmehaldus\/files\/ikoonid.png\" width=\"423\">\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWe do an example search to find <strong>repositories for materials science<\/strong>:<br>We start the search with the <strong>keyword <em>materials science<\/em><\/strong>. This search returns 80 results (26.09.2019) and can be quickly reviewed based on the descriptions of the repositories. Once we have selected the one of interest, we will perform further searches inside the selected repository.
