The databases open for the University of Tartu can be accessed via the link\u00a0Databases<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>on the Library homepage. The link leads to an alphabetical list of databases.
To find databases on your subject, choose one of the Faculties<\/strong>: Medicina, Realia et naturalia, Socialia, or Humaniora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Read a short description of each database below its name to understand its scope and features. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many specialities are provided with\u00a0<\/span>abstract databases<\/strong> <\/span>that enable one to get an overview of all materials published in the given field (newspaper articles and other sources, e.g. conference proceedings, dissertations, articles in various collections, books, book reviews, etc.).<\/span> Besides bibliographic data, abstract databases also contain abstracts of articles or other documents. For example,\u00a0ERIC <\/em>(education),\u00a0APA <\/em>PsycInfo <\/em>(psychology),\u00a0MLA International Bibliography<\/em> (linguistics and literary science), and\u00a0SciFinder Scholar<\/em> (chemistry). Medline (medicine),\u00a0SportDiscus,\u00a0and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some databases may be both abstract and full-text databases<\/strong> at the same time. For instance, the EBSCO database Academic Search Ultimate p<\/em>rovides bibliographic data and abstracts for more than 12,500 journal titles and full-text articles for 10,000\u00a0journal titles.\u00a0

Databases are interlinked. Quite often, when searching a bibliographic or reference database, it is possible to find out whether the item can be accessed and read immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many databases are accessible from a common platform, and a common user interface can search them.
Abstracts and full-text databases from different fields of science, as well as the multidisciplinary\u00a0Academic Search Ultimate database<\/em>, are accessible via\u00a0EBSCOhost<\/strong><\/a><\/span> on the EBSCO platform.<\/span> On the search page, you can specify which databases you want to search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With\u00a0<\/span>EBSCO Discovery<\/strong><\/a>, you can search most databases and other information resources that are accessible to the University of Tartu at once.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With\u00a0Web of Science<\/a><\/strong>,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0you can access the Clarivate Analytics citation database,\u00a0Web of Science Core Collection,\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0Journal Citation Reports\u00a0<\/strong>database, which reflects<\/span> journal impact factors.\u00a0Essential Science Indicators\u00a0is a database that helps analyze and evaluate the quality of research at the levels of scientists, institutions, and countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SCOPUS<\/a><\/strong> is a\u00a0multidisciplinary abstracts and citations database owned by the information and analytics company\u00a0Elsevier. It offers\u00a0abstracts for more than 15,000 scientific journals. Based on the publisher\u2019s assessment, the database includes about 80% of international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Web of Science Core Collection and SCOPUS are similar to a certain extent; their main difference is that SCOPUS\u2019s selection of journals is broader, while Web of Science\u2019s selection spans a longer temporal range. These databases complement each other, and the University of Tartu Library is pleased to have access to both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also a number of publisher-specific databases that contain the e-journals of a single publisher. These publishers offer their e-journals in their own databases on separate platforms. The University of Tartu Library has access to the\u00a0following publishers\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>e-journal databases, which<\/strong> contain journals from various fields of science.

JSTOR<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Journal Storage \u2013 The Scholarly Journal Archive)<\/em> is an important multidisciplinary full-text database. This is an archive of scholarly journals, providing access mainly to older volumes, mostly from the beginning of publication. The database does not include 3-5 recent volumes of the journals. Access to recent volumes of these journals should be checked at the library portal of e-journals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Muse<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a collection of e-journals on the humanities and social sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annual Reviews<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>contain review journals on different subject areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of\u00a0other full-text databases<\/strong> that contain journals on only one subject area, either from one or several different publishers, such as e-journals of the\u00a0American Chemical Society<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0American Physical Society<\/em>,\u00a0American Society for Microbiology<\/em>,\u00a0Beck-Online<\/em>\u00a0(law),\u00a0BREPOLIS databases<\/em>\u00a0(the humanities),\u00a0CSIRO Publishing\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0(natural sciences),\u00a0IEEE Xplore<\/em>\u00a0(computer science, electronics),\u00a0Institute of Physics (IOP) electronic journals<\/em>,\u00a0Nature Publishing e-journals<\/em>,\u00a0APA PsycArticles<\/em>\u00a0and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Tartu Library also offers access to the\u00a0statistics database\u00a0<\/strong>IMD World Competitiveness Online<\/a><\/strong>.
