E-book databases

The University of Tartu Library offers access to various multidisciplinary and specialized e-book databases. The collection is continually expanding, and users can browse the databases by faculty. Below is an overview of the main e-book databases available.

E-book databases

Note: Access to full texts from these databases may require a VPN connection if you’re off-campus.

Ebook Central is a multidisciplinary database containing books from many different publishers; instruction videos on using this database can be found here.

Oxford Academic – access to almost 300 e-books from the Oxford University Press from key disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, science, medicine, and law. To see the various books available for UT students, click Explore Books and filter to All content I have access to.

O’Reilly provides access to over 60,000 technology, creative and business books and videos from leading publishers.
Register with your University of Tartu email (@ut.ee) by clicking HERE. Choose “Not listed?” under the Select your institution menu, enter your UT email, and you will receive temporary access. After 5 to 30 minutes, you will receive an email to finalize your account setup.
Outside of the University network, use the VPN connection.

Reference works

Oxford English Dictionary – online version of the 2nd edition of the comprehensive 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary.

Oxford Reference Online – access to over 100 reference works spanning various subjects from Oxford University Press, including dictionaries (the Concise Oxford DictionaryThe Oxford American Dictionary of Current English, etc.), terminological dictionaries (Concise Medical Dictionary, The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Mathematics, etc.), biographical reference books (Who’s Who in the Twentieth Century, Dictionary of Political Biography, etc.).

Grove Music Online – The comprehensive online version of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2nd ed.), The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz (2nd ed.).
