{"id":75,"date":"2024-04-04T04:47:06","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T01:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/cgem\/summerschool2022\/"},"modified":"2024-05-06T09:43:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T06:43:25","slug":"summerschool2022","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/cgem\/summerschool2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer school 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>The Tartu\u00a0Summer school\u00a0on\u00a0Evolution, Genetics and\u00a0Medicine\u00a02021\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">30.08-02.09.2023, online<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the\u00a0first\u00a0school\u00a0of a\u00a0series of\u00a0annual\u00a0international summer schools\u00a0that brings together evolution, genetics and medicine.\u00a0The school is organised by the\u00a0cGEM group at the\u00a0Institute of Genomics,\u00a0University of Tartu, Estonia.<\/p>\n<h3>Programme<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0summer school is focussed on\u00a0methods and resources for\u00a0identifying the present-day consequences of past natural selection\u00a0for\u00a0phenotypic variation and susceptibility to disease, and will cover advanced methods for inferring evolutionary histories from genomics data\u00a0and linking them\u00a0to large-scale genomic and functional datasets.\u00a0Lectures introducing\u00a0theoretical concepts and methods will be combined with workshops\u00a0designed to give hands-on experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anders Eriksson<\/strong>: Evolutionary theory of complex traits<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vasili\u00a0Pankratov<\/strong>: Tree-based based methods of evolutionary inference<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Dannemann<\/strong>: Introgression from archaic humans<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayukh\u00a0Mondal<\/strong>:\u00a0Deep learning methods for\u00a0evolutionary inference<\/p>\n<p><strong>T\u00f5nis Org<\/strong>:\u00a0Epigenetics and cell-based functional assays<\/p>\n<p>The school will be held online\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>August 30 and\u00a0September 2<\/strong>, and\u00a0will be\u00a0<strong>free of charge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Application<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0course\u00a0is aimed at PhD students of\u00a0mathematics and bioinformatics\u00a0with\u00a0an\u00a0interest in\u00a0evolution. We also welcome students\u00a0from biological\u00a0and medical\u00a0backgrounds\u00a0with sufficient background in\u00a0computational analysis, advanced undergraduates, and postdocs.\u00a0<strong>We\u00a0can accept maximum 40 students.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications are to be sent by email to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:kaisa.kuus@ut.ee\">kaisa.kuus@ut.ee<\/a><\/strong>.
