{"id":22,"date":"2024-04-04T04:36:10","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T01:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/andmehaldus\/stakeholders\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T18:06:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T15:06:17","slug":"stakeholders","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/andmehaldus\/stakeholders\/?lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tInterest in open research data has spread among many different parties: researchers, politicians, funders, citizens, entrepreneurs, journalists and universities.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"puzzle\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/301\/puzzle-1713170_640.jpg\" style=\"width:400px;height:211px\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<b>Researchers<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tGlobal sharing of the basic source data of research will make research more <strong>transparent and replicable, thus ensuring the trustworthiness of researchers<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tResearchers will be paid for the whole of their work, meaning that both the <strong>research articles and the underlying data can be cited<\/strong>. Practising open access increases the number of citations.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tThe <strong>shared data can be reused<\/strong> by the researchers themselves and others, provided that the data are the FAIR data or, at least, it is properly managed.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tData is the treasure which can be the basis for <strong>new interpretations and discoveries<\/strong>. This would increase the transparency and improve the science-based foundation of political decisions as well as support democracy \u2013 open data would be similarly accessible for politicians, scientists and citizens. This way, everyone could participate in science-based decision-making and <strong>increase democracy.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tThe ORION Open Science report <em><a href=\"https:\/\/v-a.se\/downloads\/Orion-WP2-PublicSurveyReport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public attitudes to life sciences research in six European countries<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(2018) shows that interest in life sciences research is generally high among citizens:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"676\" height=\"436\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-129\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: justify\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/301\/citizens.png\" title=\"citizens.png\" alt=\"citizens.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/301\/citizens.png 676w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/301\/citizens-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\">\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn Estonia citizen scientists are involved in nature observations in large scale and the observational data are in <a data-url=\"https:\/\/elurikkus.ee\/en\" href=\"https:\/\/elurikkus.ee\/en\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">eBiodiversity<\/a> portal. Using data helps to make more precise decisions in public sector and to improve business processes in entrepreneurship. We can say that today, Estonia is moving towards making data-based governing decisions.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\n\t\tThe saying \u201cdata are the new oil\u201d has already become a clich\u00e9.\n\t<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\n\tInformation and communication technologies develop new products for the analysis of big data, for artificial intelligence and robotics. This creates new jobs for data scientists.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<strong>Media<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tConcerning the<strong> media<\/strong>, a new branch of journalism \u2013 <strong>data journalism<\/strong> \u2013 has emerged, analysing large sets of data, combining databases and sorting the results.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tThere are lots of examples of data journalism and data visualization, your just need to google. Let us pick up one of these:\u00a0<br><a data-url=\"https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/y2jz97ss\" href=\"https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/y2jz97ss\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">What Spotify data show about the decline of English<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<strong>Organisations (universities, institutes)<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tAn organisation with a working open data policy is innovative, visible and trustworthy in the world of science. Open data are safely stored, the legal principles and laws are similar for and followed by all organisations.
