The 2017 AESC Convention will be devoted to the theme "Challenges and Opportunities of Europeanisation in the Caucasus". It will be held from 27 to 28 April 2017 at Yeditepe University in Istanbul (Turkey).



The AESC Convention is open not only for AESC members, but for everybody wishing to take part in scholarly debates on Europeanisation in the Caucasus. Even if you do not intend to propose a presentation, you are welcome to visit the panels and join the discussion. AESC membership is not a precondition for submitting proposals to the Convention. Participation in the Convention is free.



You must pre-register by March 31, 2017 to have your name listed in the Convention Programme Index of Participants, indicating your name, affiliation and function. Pre-registration after this date will keep you informed about the programme and other relevant news. 



Submission of proposals

Proposals must be submitted electronically by March 31, 2017. Every proposal must be accompanied by an abstract (500 words) and the cv of the proponent.

 Please pay attention to the following conditions:

 1) You may submit proposals for individual papers, panels and / or roundtables. Panels should have a maximum of 3 presenters and 2 discussants. Roundtables may have up to 6 participants. If you submit an individual paper only, the organisers will try to group you in a panel according to your topic.

 2) The time slot for an event (panel, roundtable) is 90 minutes including discussion with the audience. When organising the panel or roundtable, please keep in mind not to exceed this time limit.

 3) If you propose an individual paper, please add your CV. If you nominate colleagues for a panel and / or roundtable, please add their cv's as well.

 Be sure to gather all required information first. Incomplete proposals may not be considered.


Hotel & travel

Yeditepe University is located in Istanbul at the address İnönü Mah., Kayışdağı Cad., 34755 Ataşehir/İstanbul, Turkey. For a campus map, see The Convention will take place at the Faculty of Law (No. 8 on the map).

The nearest airport is Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, located at a distance of 24 km (by comparison, Atatürk International Airport is is at a distance of 42 km). Regarding transportation, there are various options including public buses, Havabus Buses (private airport bus service) and taxi services to Kadiköy or Ataşehir which is close to the campus. In addition to these, from Atatürk Airport there is a subway option. With only two transfers you may reach Kozyataği from where you may have a short taxi ride to the campus. Among these options taking a taxi directly to Yeditepe or hotels is highly recommended since it approximately costs TL 110 (€ 29) from Atatürk Airport and TL 70 (€ 17) from Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Yeditepe. For visitors of the Convention, a pick-up service from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport will be available. Also, there will be a limited amount of accomodation opportunities on campus.
